Happy New Year 2018!

May you prosper in 2018, in everything you do!

Well, clearly 2017 was a very busy year as I have not posted a blog post in, mmm, in.....oh I don't know...many many months! Terrible, I know! So let me try again.

A quilting point that came up a lot last year in my travels was the question of ditch stitching. To ditch or not to ditch? I prefer to ditch stitch. Apart from it stabilizing your quilt it also creates a refined look. It finishes a quilt of nicely. I usually explain it as: Imagine you are going to a posh wedding. You dress up in the perfect dress,  gorgeous shoes, matching clutch bag. You have your hair, nails and make-up done...but you don't wear any jewelry...The picture is just not complete is it? Well that is how I feel about it in any case. And you don't have to ditch stitch around each every fabric patch. The amount of ditch stitching will depend on your quilting design chosen. If you are going to go modern and quilt different patterns in different colour patches for instance, then I would ditch around those patches. But if you are going to put a secondary quilt design over the patchwork then you don't want to ditch around each patch as it wold interfere with your quilt design. So the ditchwork would be around feature quilting area.

This issue came up for me again yesterday as I was working on a customer quilt. Initially I didn't think it would be necessary to ditch around certain patches because I was going to do dense-ish back fill. But it just didn't look 'finished' to me so I added the ditch stitching around the specific area and I think it does look better now. Let me know what you think?

So 2017 was absolutely memorable! I have some incredible people and been to amazing places. I have included several pics below. Enjoy the browse, have a wonderful day and hopefully we will 'meet' each other here again much sooner again than our previous encounters.

Happy Quilting!
